I love scheduling a family’s photo shoot at their home. First of all, everyone is comfortable, and its easy and familiar, which I really think helps ease the whole ‘camera pointed at me’ tension. But most importantly the resulting images capture the surroundings most important to the family. This is the place they live out their daily lives, where they play, eat, learn and grow together. The house and yard don’t have to be perfect to get amazing photos. Little pockets of beauty exist in any environment, and I love the challenge of finding them. This shoot was done at grandma’s house, which is down the street and a second home to these sisters. I arrived a little early to take a look around, and I was not disappointed. When the family was ready we headed to the front yard and started having fun in some fabulous climbing trees.
As you can see these girls are full, and I mean FULL, of personality! It was so much fun working with them! Next we went down to the street, which in this part of Wilmington is lined with brick walls. The whitewashed walls on one side made for perfect simple backdrop, and the brick red wall on the other side was great for a little more intensity. I am pretty sure the photos that we got from this fifteen minutes will always be among my favorites.
We finished up the session in the yard with some cuddling and a little bit of dancing. I absolutely love when the genuine and deep bond a family has for each other shines through in the photos, like it did for this family. And when it does, I feel my job has been done.
I am biased my OH. MY. GOODNESS. Love this!
